In India, Blogs Boost Brands

Most bloggers amplify posts on Facebook and Twitter

October 20, 2015 | Social Media | Social Media

Bloggers in major Indian cities are frequently involved directly with brands, according to polling from June 2015.

Leading Ways in Which Bloggers in India Promote Brands, June 2015 (% of respondents)

Digital marketing agency echoVME surveyed active bloggers in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai about their approach to the medium. The respondents included bloggers covering a variety of topics, such as beauty, fashion, food, travel and more.

And the vast majority were not shy about endorsing brands, including on their blog as well as other social media: 85% did so.

It was less common to write blog posts actually sponsored by a brand, but that was still a majority activity among respondents.

Bloggers' brand-oriented activities are likely to filter through other social media channels as well, according to echoVME. Nearly all respondents were also active on Facebook and Twitter, and more than nine in 10 also said they distributed blog content through those platforms.

While Facebook in particular is very popular among social network users in India, its penetration is still tiny in the country. eMarketer estimates that just 10.7% of the overall population of India uses Facebook at least once per month, equivalent to 48.5% of internet users. That still translates to a sizeable Facebook audience of 134.5 million this year.
