The on-demand economy is growing, and companies like Amazon are thriving on two-day shipping, but some consumers are willing to wait days for their order. In fact, nearly a quarter of internet users in North America say that three days is an acceptable timeframe for ecommerce order shipping, according to research.
A.T. Kearney asked internet users in North America what the acceptable timeframe for ecommerce order shipping is, for purchases that weren’t urgent. Almost a quarter (24%) of respondents—also the largest share—said that three days was the acceptable timeframe. Some 9%, said that four days was the acceptable timeframe, and 16% of respondents said five days was.
Others, however, felt that was too long to wait. For example, 13% of internet users said that same-day shipping was acceptable. Furthermore, 12% said a day was acceptable.
Same-day shipping may be important to some consumers, but separate research from Bizrate Insights, a division of Connexity, found that fewer digital buyers in North America believed same-day delivery was important in 2015 compared to years before.
And the data found that younger respondents care most about same-day delivery. Indeed, as respondents got older, they were less likely to say it was important.
