Families in Spain may not be gathering for turkey dinners this week, but they can expect plenty of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales specials, even though Thanksgiving isn‘t a holiday in Spain.
According to a November 2016 report by Adigital in collaboration with Confianza Online and beruby, more than 80% of digital stores in Spain are planning to offer Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals to their customers.
Post-Thanksgiving Day sales events are becoming more and more common in markets around the world. Markets including South Korea, China, the UK, Brazil and Denmark have tapped into the commercial tradition.
In Spain, the number of stores offering special promotions will rise by 17% over 2015 levels, according to Adigital. And it predicts that Black Friday and Cyber Monday digital sales in Spain will reach €1.267 billion ($1.405 billion) this year. That includes travel sales, which make up a significant portion of promotional activity.
By comparison, Adobe estimated in October 2016 that US digital retail sales on Black Friday alone would total $3.1 billion this year, and that Cyber Monday would bring in another $3.4 billion. Adobe‘s figures are based on the top 100 US retailers and exclude travel sales.
