iPhone Shipments: Ahead of the release of Apple's hotly anticipated iPhone 8 model came news from Strategy Analytics that the company has shipped 1.2 billion iPhones globally over the past decade. Along with hitting the vaunted "three commas" status in terms of shipments, the iPhone has also generated a cumulative $760.4 billion in revenues for Apple.

Brands Go Programmatic: Procter & Gamble exec Marc Pritchard roiled the marketing and media industries earlier this year by raising questions about the efficacy of digital ads. But new research from L2 found that 80% of consumer packaged goods brands bought display ads through programmatic means, a sign that Pritchard's warning might be falling on deaf ears. L2 also reported that ecommerce sites may be siphoning off digital ad spending; 62% of brands it examined placed display ads on either Amazon or Walmart.

Mcommerce Payments Are Coming: You might not use Apple Pay right now, but there's a good chance you'll use some type of mobile payment service for ecommerce in the future, according to Transparency Market Research. The firm projects that while global mcommerce payments will total $1.11 billion this year, that figure will grow to $7.55 billion by 2022. The uptick will be driven by a host of factors, including increased adoption of mobile devices, better access to bandwidth, improved security features and the integration of loyalty programs.

Cyber Bullies: Hackers are going all out on their mobile efforts. New research from digital security firm Avast reports that attacks targeting mobile devices running Android increased by almost 40% year over year in Q2 2017. Avast found criminals were attempting to gain control of users' devices to spy on them, or get them to download malicious or fake apps to serve them spam ads.
