Credit's Dead: Credit and debit cards are taking a hit, globally. New data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) projects that by 2019, digital payment platforms will account for the majority of ecommerce transactions worldwide. UNCTAD expects the share of transactions completed using debit or credit cards will fall from 51% in 2014 to 46% by 2019, thanks to a surge of adoption of new payment platforms like Alibaba's Alipay, Tencent's Tenpay and PayPal.

Screen Spree: TV content is increasingly an any-screen-to-hand proposition for viewers in the EU-5. According to a midyear look at so-called four-screen TV viewing by Médiamétrie's Eurodata TV Worldwide and Tape Consultancy, viewers in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK watched 3 hours, 48 minutes per day per person across TV sets, desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets in the first half of 2017.

Youth Group: Social news consumers in North America are largely ages 16 to 34, according to a study by GlobalWebIndex that tracked internet users ages 16 to 64 who had seen a video, article or story on social media in the previous month from a list of 25 online news sources. Within that age span, the youngest group (ages 16 to 24) made up the largest share, at 33%. Among groups ages 35 and older, less than 20% had done so.
