Brands > Retailers: More than half of shoppers favor shopping directly with brands over retailers, according to research from Astound Commerce. Nearly six in 10 survey respondents also used a brand manufacturer's website during their research phase.

Mobile Madness: A new study from RetailMeNot found that 92% of marketers planned to increase investments in mobile ads in 2017. Social media advertising was also a draw; 89% of respondents planned on increasing outlays there.

Youth in Revolt: US millennials spend about $1.2 trillion a year, but there are substantial shopping differences among subgroups in the generation, L.E.K Consulting found. Millennials with a college education or those with kids spent more money than their less-educated and childless counterparts, for example.

Wearables Spike: The worldwide market for wearables is projected to grow from 118 million units shipped in 2016 to 430 million by 2022, Tractica predicts. The company expects wearables focused on fitness and health to drive the increase.

Must-See Pay TV: The market for pay TV is expected to total $254.77 billion worldwide by 2025, a report from Grand View Research finds. According to the firm, much of that will be the result of growth in demand in Asia-Pacific and parts of Latin America.
