PCs and smartphones are still the most popular internet access devices in Argentina. But according to polling by Carrier y Asociados, using a smart TV to access the internet is growing much more common.
Carrier y Asociados reported that while just 15% of internet users in Argentina used a smart TV to access the internet in 2015, that number doubled, to 30%, in 2016. Video game consoles, which commonly support apps and online connections, have become less popular internet access devices, declining from 14% to only 9%.
One reason for the switch may be that smart TVs provide a better browsing experience—and since they’re relatively new devices, more households likely have a smart TV in 2016 than did a year earlier.
However, data from Qualcomm Innovation Society Index (QuISI) and International Data Corp. released in January 2016 shows video game consoles are still significantly more common than smart TVs among internet users in Argentina.
eMarketer estimates steady growth of internet users in Argentina in the years to come; there were 29.0 million in 2015, and will be 29.8 million in 2016. That figure will hit 32.2 million by 2020.
