3G Connections on the Rise in Vietnam

Fixed broadband connections are also increasing

February 7, 2017 | Mobile

More than 4 million 3G connections were added in Vietnam between June 2016 and December 2016, according to a January 2017 report from the Viet Nam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA). There were nearly 45 million 3G smartphone connections in the country last December, the highest figure to date.

The number of 2G connections, however, fell sharply to 79.6 million, a decrease of more than 7 million from June 2016. Because of this drop, there were actually fewer connections in total—124.2 million in December 2016 vs. 127.3 million in June 2016.

Meanwhile, fixed broadband connections are also on the upswing. The number of such connections reached a record-high 9.1 million in December 2016, according to VNTA data. That’s up by 1.4 million year over year.
