Twitter Use Down as Facebook Holds Steady in South Korea

Nearly seven in 10 internet users used a social network last year

The number of Twitter account holders in South Korea was up year over year as of last November, according to research from CYRAM, but active usage actually went down over the same time period.

Despite an increase of 1.5 million account holders, the number of users who tweeted at least once per month fell by around 16.7% to 1.0 million, and the overall number of tweets during November 2013 was down more than 7.1% since the previous November, to 128.9 million.

eMarketer estimates that, among 38.4 million internet users in South Korea at the end of 2013, 26.6 million used a social networking site at least once per month. Overall social networking usage grew in South Korea by 7.4% in 2013, including a 9.3% rise in the number of people using Facebook at least monthly.
