Fantasy sports on are on the rise—according to May 2014 polling conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs, the number of players in North America has reached 41 million, the highest in the five years the study has been conducted.
Unsurprisingly, male internet users in Canada were more than twice as likely as females to report playing fantasy sports, at 27% vs. 12%. But this difference was much smaller than that in the US, where 22% of online men and just 6% of online women played along with their favorite stars. While fantasy sports penetration among female internet users is low, that makes it fully twice as high as in the US.
Less surprising, teens were the top age group participating in fantasy sports, followed by millennials. Among the 35-and-up group, just 15% were interested in drafting their own teams and keeping score throughout the season.
