Americans are preparing to get back to watching their favorite TV shows now that the writers strike is over, according to a Carat survey.

Overall, 9% of respondents said they are watching more TV now that the strike is over compared to during the strike, while 82% said they are watching the same amount as before the strike.

A majority (62%) said they will return to their favorite show once it resumes in late March or April, while 55% said they will watch their favorite show when it returns in the fall or winter.

Only 5% of respondents said they will not return to to their favorite shows. Of these people, 10% said they will watch TV shows online instead.

Despite few respondents saying they will go online to watch TV shows, Carat expects online TV viewership to continue to rise.

"Television has shown its resiliency and the growing online component has become a complimentary platform, not only as a convenience for the viewer but also as an advertising opportunity," said Sarah Fay, CEO of Carat.

The survey was conducted among 1,000 US adult primetime TV viewers during March 2008.
