Mobile users in the US check the weather more than other types of news and information, while Europeans check sports most often, according to M:Metrics data captured from March through May 2007. The firm questioned mobile users in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK and the US.

Nearly 10 million mobile users checked the weather from their mobile handsets in the US during the study. In Europe, 7.1 million mobile users checked for sports information, while only 3.6 million mobile users looked at weather information. News was the next favorite type of information among mobile users in both the US and the European countries surveyed.

There were few other differences in mobile information usage between the two regions.

There were actually larger differences in mobile information use by gender than geography, with males generally favoring sports in both regions and females favoring weather.
