Some Still Go on Working Vacations

Nearly a third of US vacationers feel compelled to stay connected when away from work, according to Orbitz's "Take 5 to Travel" survey. That is down 4% from the number who felt so compelled in 2006, according to a study conducted in March 2007 by Ipsos Public Affairs among US consumers ages 18 and older.

The number of vacationers who do not check e-mail also grew by 4%, to 64%.

Adults ages 18 to 34 were most likely to report checking in with work or their work e-mail at least once a day while on vacation.

Over three-quarters of respondents ages 55 and older never check in with work while on holiday.

The results were similar to other studies, in that younger workers are more likely to stay connected to work while on vacation.
