Nearly two-thirds of US Internet users still buy CDs from stores, according to a May 2007
"Fact of the Week" survey by Greenfield Online. Just over four in 10 respondents downloaded music from the Internet.
Respondents were allowed to name more than one method of obtaining music.
Just over half of Internet downloaders were 25 to 44 years old. Those 55 and older accounted for 11% of music downloaders.
Asked to name their download site of choice, just under a third cited iTunes. About a quarter named other music downloading sites such as Napster or Rhapsody.
Over four in 10 music downloaders declined to name a specific site of choice.
Monthly spending averaged between $0 and $10 for 58% of music downloaders. About a quarter spent between $11 and $20 per month.
