Second Life for Branding

Over half of Second Life (SL) users think that it is a good marketing tool, according to a Global Market Insite (GMI) poll.

Only 16% said that they would not be more likely to buy or use a brand that is represented in the Internet-based virtual world.

Michael Cai of Park Associates said the poll indicates that SL is an untapped source for marketing and branding.

"The people at (SL publisher) Linden Lab have the opportunity to build out a new platform for promotion, much like Yahoo and Google did for the Internet," Mr. Cai said.

Over half of users said that they watched less television than before they started playing.

Over a fifth of users said that they have more SL friends than in real life, and 29% felt that SL interfered with their real-world social life.

About a quarter of users said that they are not satisfied with real life, and use SL to escape it.
