"Would you like to speak with the pharmacist?"

Asking that question makes drugstore customers happy, even if they do not take advantage of the offer, according to J.D. Power and Associates' "2007 Retail Pharmacy Customer Satisfaction Study."

The question is a benchmark for many pharmacy companies, and a legal requirement in many states, yet only 63% of customers surveyed said that they were asked.

David Stefan of J.D.Power says that "overall, it appears that pharmacies may not be taking full advantage of the pharmacist to help demonstrate value to customers and ensure their safety."

More than 70% of customers said they received their prescription on time. Customers in the mail-order segment, which includes online pharmacies, were especially satisfied with the availability of medications and the usefulness of information.

Only 5% of customers reported experiencing problems while filling their prescription. Less than 1% cited accuracy issues with dosage, quantity or correct medication.
